A careful reading of the biblical texts reveals beguiling clues that God had a wife/companion beside him at the time of creation.
Genesis 1:26-27 describes creation as:
“Then Gods said,
“Let us make humankind in our image,
according to our likeness;
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, . . .
So God created humankind in his image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.”
(Genesis 1:26-27, NRSV italics added)
Some biblical passages identify a female presence assisting
God in creation:
“The lord by wisdom[*] founded the earth . . .”
(Proverbs 3:19, Oxford Apocryphal)
*a Hebrew feminine noun
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His Way,
before His works of old.
I was set up from everlasting,
from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
at the first,
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
. . .
before the hills was I brought forth,
. . .
When He prepared the heavens, I was there;
. . .
when He appointed the foundations of the earth--
then I was by Him, as one brought up with Him
and I was daily His delight . . .”
(Proverbs 8:22-31, KJV OT)
The Wisdom of Solomon also confirms God was not alone during creation:
“I will tell you what wisdom is and how she came to be,
and I will hide no secrets from you,
but I will trace her course from
the beginning of creation. . .”
(Wisdom 6:22)
“She glorifies her noble birth by living with God
and the Lord of all loves her.
For she is an initiate in the Knowledge of God,
and an associate in his works.”
(Wisdom 8:3-4)
“With you [God] is wisdom, she who
knows your work and was present when you made the world;” (Wisdom 9:9)
And in Ecclesiasticus/the Wisdom of Ben Sira we find:
“Before the ages, in the beginning, he created me [Wisdom],
and for all the ages I shall not cease to be.
In the holy tent I ministered before him,
and so I was established in Zion.
Thus in the beloved city he gave me a resting place,
and in Jerusalem was my domain.”
(Sirach 24:9-11, Oxford Apocryphal)
